Free Burrito or up to $25K in Bitcoin? Chipotle Celebrates National Burrito Day With BTC Prizes

Customers of Chipotle Mexican Grill (or simply Chipotle) will be able to participate in a special promo that can get them a free burrito or up to $25,000 in bitcoin. All they have to do is guess a six-digit code that resembles a lost treasure worth hundreds of millions of dollars in BTC.

Bitcoin or Burrito?

Although most people associate April 1st as being the international Fool’s Day, that particular date has another meaning in the US – it’s the National Burrito Day.

To celebrate the event, one of the largest chains of Mexican food – Chipotle – announced a special campaign that will transpire on the day. Interestingly, the campaign has bitcoin implications as well.

Chipotle has partnered with Stefan Thomas – a German-born programmer whose story CryptoPotato told a few months back. In 2011, Thomas had received 7,002 bitcoins for an educational video called “What is Bitcoin?” but he didn’t pay much attention to his new holdings that had little-to-no value at the time. Consequently, he lost the digital keys to the wallet.

As the value of those bitcoins exploded in the next decade to over $400 million now, Thomas made several attempts to gain access to the wallet, but he failed to remember the password and said he gave up.

The collaboration with Chipotle will work as a “playful ode to Thomas’s experience losing the login” to that BTC treasure. Meaning, the campaign will enable participants to try ten times to guess a six-digit code, and if they win, they can get…

Free Burrito or $25K In BTC

Should the participants crack the six-digit code, they will have “a chance to win a free burrito or up to $25,000 in bitcoin.” Nevertheless, even if they fail with their ten attempts, they could still be “surprised and delighted with a special offer from Chipotle.”

The entire prizing is as follows – 10,000 participants will win one free burrito, 50 will get $500 in BTC, and 3 will be the ultimate winners – $25,000 worth of the primary cryptocurrency.

“We’re always looking for unique ways to enhance the celebration, and this year, we’re giving fans the opportunity to acquire two highly valuable assets: Burritos or Bitcoin.” – said Chipotle’s Chief Market Officer, Chris Brandt.
